Regiment New York National Guard Shako Badge
This is an original U.S. Civil War Shako Helmet Plate for the 22nd Regiment New York National Guard in nice condition. One of the wire pins on the back of the badge is missing. This was New York City unit organized by business interests during the spring of 1861 following the departure of most of the local militia. Known as the Union Grays, this home guard unit was designated the 22nd Regiment, National Guard of the State of New York, on September 17, 1861. They garrisoned Harper's Ferry prior to its captures by Stonewall Jackson, and skirmished with the Confederates during the fateful Gettysburg campaign.
