    Description

    A simple plank door.
If you have logged on to my site after looking at all of the beautiful doors we make that means you are probably ready to pull the trigger and start asking questions. That means you have probably done your homework and you have looked at about every website out there that sells rustic reclaimed lumber doors.
You will find we do not penalize you for wanting a custom sized door. Whether it is custom with a 21” jamb for a log cabin or 3” for a turn of the century house the prices will not go up because you want something out of the box.  Our made in the USA carpenters are amazing and talented. Once you buy a door and we can communicate freely I will send you files of all the doors we make and hardware choices.
The purchase of your door is a starting place of creating your dream door. We can customize the measurements of your pre hung door. We do not nickel and dime you. Brackets, nails, cages are included as you will see in the order form I send to you. If you see a door advertised and you see hardware on the door that is included in the price. The hardware is hand forged by incredibly talented blacksmiths that work just for us.
When you contact me about a door if you generally know your rough opening, the swing of the door, the jamb width, if you want an arched or a square top door and what hardware you would like that is about all I will need.
The quality of the doors is beyond amazing. If you are local you can come and see and meet the carpenters or if you want a file of all of the doors we make I will tell you how to do that. We have sold over 6000 doors by just word of mouth and eBay and ETSY. If you find a door on the internet send it and I will tell you if we can make that.
Once you become a customer you will have my full attention. We have been around a long time and we will be here to answer all of your questions and the questions of your installer. We do not stain the doors. It is not hard and we will send you a video class on every step. ANYONE can do it. If that is not enough you can call us.
We do not do the bore holes or install lock sets That needs to be done on site. We do not install the throw bolts for double doors. That needs to be done on site. We can Dutch any door. For doors with glass I will send you a list of the glass we offer including laminate, tempered Low E, dual glazed.

Doors create a magnificent first impression.  Yours can go beyond being a simple entry way to one that reflects your personality and adds character and warmth. We use solid old growth reclaimed Doug Fir lumber 40 - 100 years old gleaned from demolished houses, barns and businesses.  Mid century all lumber was original growth and only rough sawn at the mill so a 2 X 4 was a full 2” X 4”. After that the wood was planed down or surfaced four sides so that it becomes a 1-1/2 X 3-1/2”. We identify our lumber by only purchase full inch stock.
In some cases the wood can be hundreds of years old and could have been even older before it was used in the structure it was found in. Knowing the age helps determine the wood’s density and how well it stands up to the process of reclaiming it. From simple to elaborate our rustic doors can provide you with the look, personality and mood you want.
No two doors can ever be exactly alike. The defects are naturally made and are random and will vary board to board.
Natural characteristics are knots of different sizes, variations in color, grain swirl, wormholes, pin holes.
This is part of the charm of using reclaimed lumber.
You can request a very rustic look with the natural nail holes, hail marks, weathered by storms, pin holes, termite holes from long ago critters that no longer inhabit these doors or you can ask that we choose less rustic wood.
Most of our doors are deeply influenced by castle doors from England, Spain and Italy. Built from solid reclaimed Doug Fir wood our arched wrought iron hand forged pounded pieces you see decorating our doors giving a charm and uniqueness only limited by imagination.
Our niche is using very old kiln dried wood to make rustic doors. If you want your door to look like brand new wood in a
rustic style then tell us and we will use brand new wood. Otherwise, you are getting a piece of history.
We use Doug Fir that is solid reclaimed lumber and we can choose wood that is less rustic and sanded
smooth for a less rustic look or choose wood that has a more rustic quality. You can decide.
The doors are made in America by our talented artisans in our warehouse here in San Diego. When we purchase the wood from a third generation demolition company here in California our guys pull out any nails and metal embedded in the wood, give the wood a good cleaning and sand old paint off of the wood so that you will get the finish that you desire. One of the reasons you are using reclaimed lumber is to highlight the wood’s aged beauty. Once the carpenters have removed all unnatural blemishes from the wood it is now a canvas for your finishing process.
Each piece of wood is unique and is used to create unique doors and windows. Each beam is like a historical artifact and every one has it’s own story. Your door had a life before it came to you and it may have had a life before that. It could have been in a farmhouse dating back to colonial America or on a wall in a Duke’s palace in Italy.  There is something special about being able to say that your door offers character shaped from it’s previous life. There is not a way to get a wood as characterized as reclaimed wood. This old wood is unique in color variation more than anything you can get from a lumber company that sells virgin wood.
Doug Fir is a very good choice because it naturally resists most kinds of weathering without a lot of
paint or product. Old growth wood is better in every way. It has already experienced the weather and time and has multiple color tones because of the weather. The amount of time a board was exposed to rain and sunlight and other environmental factors often dictates the exact color of the finished product. Old growth Doug Fir tends of have a tight grain pattern that is quite coveted. This means the actual grain of the wood is in a smaller pattern than other wood types. This leads to durability. The beauty of this wood is minimal care after installation.
This old growth Doug Fir has a ton of character elements that are not there in new wood pieces. Old nail holes from use, worm damage and more all adds to the character of the barn wood.
Last but not least is choosing reclaimed lumber is a sustainable option that reduces deforestation thus helping to protect the eco system. Instead of cutting down new trees this is a great way to repurpose wood that has already been in use. Not only a good choice but a beautiful choice.
