    Description

0 Mississippi, Gainesville and Tuskaloosa Railroad Company bond, complete
This short line, chartered in 1852, connected Gainesville, Ala., to the Mobile & Ohio (later the Gulf, Mobile & Ohio, "GMO").  The first train, using cars rented from the M&O, ran in 1860, just before the outbreak of the War between the States.  The ten coupons provided for the payment of per year beginning July 1, 1861, by which time both Alabama and Mississippi had seceded, the Confederacy had been formed, and the War was on.  The last coupon was payable on July 1, 1870.  None of the coupons ever were redeemed, even though the bond was issued on July 25, 1862.  I do not know what happened to the little railroad,  Incidentally, the spelling of Tuskaloosa is not a misprint.  When I entered the University of Alabama in September 1955. I opened an account at the First National Bank of Tuskaloosa.
The bond is about 10" wide by 14" tall.
