The Buffalo & Lake Erie Traction Company was formed in 1906 through the consolidation of the Erie Electric Motor Company, the Hamburg Railway, the Buffalo Dunkirk and Western, the Dunkirk & Fredonia, and the Lake Erie Fast Line. Along the line, the interurban served urban services in Dunkirk and Fredonia in Chautauqua County, New York, and Lackawanna County and other intermediate points. The last of its trolleys ran between Erie, Pennsylvania and Buffalo, New York in 1932. The Buffalo & Lake Erie Traction Company was also the parent company for the Buffalo & Lackawanna Traction Company, the Chautauqua Navigation Company, the Erie & Suburban Railway, the Buffalo & Erie Railway, the Jamestown, Chautauqua, & Lake Erie, the Jamestown, Northfield & Northwest Railway, the Lake Electric Traction Company, and the Erie City Passenger Railway.
