Antique Victorian Interior Door w/4 Raised Panels
Wow, what a rare find! Extra-wide
, antique, interior door salvaged from an old home in Northeastern PA. It is
made of solid Douglas Fir or pine.
The door is quite heavy, weighing 45lbs!
When most people hear "pine" they think of a cheap, weak, soft wood. New pine hewn from 10 - 20 year old trees don't have the same insect-resistant, rot-resistant, or even fire-resistant qualities that old pine, hewn from trees hundreds of years old have. Old pine is also much harder and stronger than young pine.
The door has a traditional, Victorian style, 4-panel arrangement with 2 longer, vertical panels on top and 2 shorter panels underneath. The panels are raised on both sides, and have no molding (shaker style).
The door is completely painted.
Hardware
:
The door is not equipped with any hardware. However, we have a good selection of period hardware to outfit it (check out our eBay store).

Quirks & Considerations
:
The height and width of the door were unevenly cut at some point, most likely to compensate for the home's settling foundation or a warped floor. We could cut it to an even 35 1/2"x82 1/2", cut it narrower and/or shorter, or even build it up to make it bigger

The 2 lower panels have thin cracks stemming from the bottom (see photos). These are more cosmetic blemishes than structural flaws, which is why they're mentioned in this section. Just fill them with some wood putty prior to repainting or refinishing, and they will be invisible or blend in.
Condition
:
Considering that the door is around 100 years old, it's in great shape. It has a scrape or dent along it's side (see last photo) because the contractor who moved them strapped them to the roof rack of his truck and the ratchet from his strap made the dent. Other than that, the door has
the typical scrapes, scratches, and small nail holes that you would expect to find on an old, used door, but no warp, rot, or other serious breaks or cracks.
O
nce the door is sanded for a new coat of paint, or stripped to refinish, most of these blemishes will be removed by sanding. What remains will be covered by paint or stain, and only appear as subtle "character marks."
The door is strong, sturdy, and ready for another lifetime of service.
Swing
:
The door is set up to swing inwardly towards the right. However, we can modify it to swing towards the left--

Refinish/Repaint
:
We could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the door to prepare any of them for you to repaint or refinish.
We have numerous photos of doors that we've repaired and refinished over the years for you to see.
Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
Modification
:
We could also modify the door to fit your opening or suite your needs. We could make a frame, trim or add to the height or width, make molding, reverse the swing, plug the hardware holes, etc. Email us with a small description of what you would like done, and we'll give you a quote.
