Description
Penn Antique Restoration36"x83" Antique Exterior Chestnut Door w/ 13 Windows
Lovely, antique, exterior door salvaged from a historic home in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The door has a double laminate chestnut core with 1/4" oak veneers on one side and 1/8" birch veneers on the other and has 13 windows.
If you are wondering why the door is so thick: it is made of "double laminate" construction, which is essentially 2 doors put together to form 1 door. This not only makes the door stronger, and more secure, but also better for insulation and increases its resistance towards warping.
Although there are 13 windows, only 7 are intact and are beveled. Two have regular glass, another 2 have impact damage and the last 2 are cracked. Unfortunately, the large glass lite in the center is one of the 2 that have regular glass. Regarding each glass lite except the one in the center, we could either
custom cut new pieces from our collection of old glass, or we could order new glass lites (i.e. beveled, tempered, leaded, stained, etc.) and install them. We do not have any old glass big enough to cut to replace the center, so we can only give the option of ordering a new glass lite.--

Hardware
:
The door is currently not equipped with any hardware
. However, w
e have a good selection of period hardware in our eBay store, and tons more in our physical store.
* If you would like any of the hardware holes patched with a solid block of wood,--see "Modification" below.
Condition
:
On the exterior, molding is chipped. The bottom lock stile is chipped. There is a break in the lock housing. There is a strip of veneer missing from the bottom rail. On the interior, some molding was replaced with some other molding that does not match. Molding is missing. The bottom of both stiles have cracks in them. There is a break in the lock housing.
Otherwise, the door is strong, sturdy, and in great shape with only surface scrapes, scratches, small nail holes--minor cosmetic blemishes, which would be removed during the finishing process or covered if painted.
Quirks & Considerations
:
The lock housing was replaced with plywood. The bottom rail was cut 3/4" shorter than both stiles, but only on the exterior side.
--We could fix the lock housing and rail. See "Modification" below.
Refinish/Repaint
:
We could refinish, repaint, or partially or completely strip the door to prepare it for you to repaint or refinish.
See the last photo in this auction as an example of our work.
