    Description

Original Antique 1895 Imperial Cabinet Card Photograph of Logging
Railroad Trestle, Scotia California, Stitz Creek, Humbolt County.  This cabinet card photo is in good condition for its age with paper loss in three corners of the mount from pinholes, chipping on the left side of the mount, paper loss on the left side of the photo & tiny chips on the right edge of the photo.  Someone wrote in pen in script on the back: Trestle turning up Stitz Creek above Scotia, Cal. June 1895.   The image is 9 1/2" x 7 5/8", the cream colored mount is 10" x 8".  The image shows a curved railroad trestle in a deforested area.  There's a small creek running below the trestle and lots of stumps & stray logs visible above & below.  The area has been clearcut & some of the ground above has eroded & slid down under the trestle. Maybe this was used by the Pacific Lumber Company's (PALCO or P.L.) to transport logs?  1895 was the year that the town of Scotia & the mill burned down. It's a crisp & clear image of a logging railroad trestle & the devastation that's left after clearcutting a forest.  This imperial cabinet card photograph will make a historic addition to any California Railroad, Scotia or logging collection.
